Moreover the Dog

When I was in high school, our youth group had a competition: Find the most unusual name in the Bible.

You can imagine the entries: Mephibosheth, Abimelech, etc.

B's husband (before he was her husband) won the competition with the name "Moreover."

It's from Luke 16:21, speaking about a poor man named Lazarus.  The verse in the NKJV goes, "Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores."

We didn't realise that it was dogs plural - we all thought it was "Moreover the dog" which is of course, a pretty awesome name.

And now, every time I hear the word "moreover," I think of old Moreover the Dog.

I think that if I ever got another dog (perish the thought,) I would have to call him "Moreover."

"Morrie" for short.

Thanks for listening.

I like that idea for a name.
Reminds me of when I was in Bible College waaaayyyy back in the day. A poor dog met his unfortunate demise near the gate of our campus. He stayed there quite a while. Some clever guys named him Rigormordi. That sounded Biblical.

Reminds me of the awful Bible jokes we used to tell our Sunday School kids. Eg:

Q: Who is the man in the Bible with no parents?
A: Joshua, son of Nun

Q: Who is the smallest man in the Bible?
A: The guard who fell asleep on his watch

Ar ar ar...

Wow, I had missed that name in the Bible! You should just go out and buy a dog so you can name him. What a great tale to tell while he jumps up and licks random people.

Cool! If I ever got a dog, I would call him 'Guess' - both quirky and stylish (sums me up don't ya thunk?)

Aa says she would name a dog, 'Vegetables' - then she could tell people she really loved vegetables...

We are a quirky bunch over here!

Mwah,
B

I have a friend who wants to call a dog "Askim", for the same reason that B would name a dog "Guess".

I've always liked your bear, Aswell.

I remember the leader of that youth group stating that if anybody submitted the name Peter he would bar them from future attendance, or something like that...

Best name in the Bible is somebody's daughter called Hazelelponi. To me, it sounds like she has a lil' pony...

We were once given a cat, a very naughty cat. We named him 'Stuart' as this is what we would do with it if it continued its nasty weeing/biting/spitting habits.
