Father's Day

A few days ago I told you about the torches that Daddy was getting for Father's Day.

It turns out that torches, which as we know are much more loved by children than by fathers, are good for some pre-Father's Day fun when used by three excited children in artificially-darkened rooms.

Both of Daddy's torches were lost by Father's Day morning.  He laughed.

In other news, there was an "I'm packing my suitcase and leaving home" episode yesterday.

Thankfully, it ended in a change of heart. It was great to be able to present Mr de Elba with the gift of a full complement of children. You're welcome, Mr de Elba, you're welcome.

  1. The apostrophe looks wrong. I always want to spell it "Fathers' Day." Apparently it was officially launched as "Father's Day" because the creator wanted each person to think about their own father (singular) when celebrating it, rather than a lot of fathers in general. Then she tried to change it, but it was a done deal according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father%27s_Day#Spelling

  2. Legend has it (I have no memory of this) that when I was about 3 I declared I was running away from home. I went storming into my room to pack. Two minutes later I came charging out again and demanded, "Alright... where are my singlets??" Well, one has to dress warmly when adopting a new hobo lifestyle.

  4. I remember running away from home. I would get as far as packing the bag then I'd remember I need to eat and I need a blanket for bed time because it's cold outside, by then I'd lose all my anger and go back to playing.

My little brother on the other hand used to crack the poops, drag his mattress off his bed and try to run to the scrub land across the road from our house. I lost count of the amount of times I had to wrestle his mattress from him.

And happy father's day to Mr De Elba.

  6. Would be interesting to know what convinced the runaway to stay: but nice for Mr de Elba to have his family around, even if he didn't get any presents.

  7. Love that the torches were AWOL by the time presentation was due. Cheap ones break, good ones get lost. Cracks me up.

  9. Your daughter runs away from home, and you race for the camera...

  10. Of course, it's the only way to make sure they come back -applaud and enable, while being terribly sad they're leaving. If I'd chased her, there would have been an Amber Alert within the hour and I'd have tearfully ended up on the news.

Plus it was a bit cold outside.
