A brief thought after not-watching eight seasons of "24"

The effects of stress include:

  • Memory problems
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Poor judgment
  • Seeing only the negative
  • Anxious or racing thoughts
  • Constant worrying
  • Moodiness
  • Irritability or short temper
  • Agitation, inability to relax
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Sense of loneliness and isolation
  • Depression or general unhappiness
  • Aches and pains
  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Nausea, dizziness
  • Chest pain, rapid heartbeat
  • Loss of sex drive
  • Frequent colds
  • Eating more or less
  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Isolating yourself from others
  • Procrastinating or neglecting responsibilities
  • Using alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs to relax
  • Nervous habits (e.g. nail biting, pacing).
So how is Jack Bauer still alive, functioning and still in that same job?

He should have resigned after Series 1 and got a job in retail.  He keeps going like this; he's going to get seriously messed up.

I'll have to take your word for it because I haven't watched one minute of this show either.

Okay, have watched some of the show, and some of those symptoms are present. But hey, I know what you mean! I'd be a quivering, body-rocking mess by now. (actually, I'd probably be dead by now, because I wouldn't be able to do half the stuff he's survived).

Totally. Have you seen the South Park episode modelled on 24? It was perfect.

When I see the boxed sets, I imagine sitting down to watch a whole series, episode after episode, and how wrecked I'd feel 24 hours later. And how much of a waste of my life that would be.

Then I remember that the boxed sets wouldn't have any ads in them, so it probably wouldn't take quite 24 hours to watch, and I try to figure out how long it would really be... and then I realise I'm wasting time trying to figure out how much time 24 wastes...

When you feel like you're having a bad day, it helps to remember Jack Bauer and you think - if he can survive THAT time and time again, surely I can survive this! :)
