Another question

This one is from me.

What would you do if ...
  • You found a nice school for your kid to go to
  • It was close to your new home
  • It was a smaller school, and you've always liked smaller schools
  • It has a nice deputy principal
  • Everything about it seemed nice

BUT ...

  • The school uniform there was ORANGE AND BROWN?

Huh? C'mon. What would you do?!?!?

And tel yourself -brown is a good colour, it doesn't show up the dirt!

  2. I would say that the good outweighs the brown at this point... although I love brown in other combos, as well as orange in other combos, I feel they do not go well together. Very 70's shag carpet. My alma mater's colors used to be orange and brown, but they have since switched to maroon and silver, a much pleasing palette. But I'd make the most of it, tell myself my kids are in good hands, and call them "Pumpkin" everyday when I sent them off to school! :D ;)

  3. My high school uniform was brown. I quite like brown so I didn't mind but ORANGE is another matter. Is it very bright? And very dominating? Or is it more of a hat trim/hair ribbons/tie stripe type of thing?

I would learn to tolerate the colours... or look around to spy out other mothers on the first day who clearly hate the uniform - you can use it as a way of bonding with the other mums.

  4. We shall call it "Jaffa & Chocolate".....

Seriously though what was that person thinking when they decided on those colours! It must have been the 70's right?!

But, how cool!! You found a great school!! Thats awesome :D

  5. I like orange. I like brown. They can look good together in the right proportions, but I've seen the uniform to which you prefer and... well... it looks very, very bad.

However, I think that all the other things outweigh the hideous uniform and at leasts your kids will only look as bad as everyone else.

...and all the drivers around the school will be able to see them coming. I bet that particular school has the lowest road accident rate of any in QLD.

  6. Kids always hate their school uniforms anyway right? So you are just giving them really good reason to hate it.

I wore fluro green for 5 years and I turned out ok. :)

  7. I would say, get on the P&C committee and lobby for an update!

  8. I think I'm the only one so far who is okay with this! Where I live, fall is my favorite season, and orange and brown are two prominent colors for the leaves on the trees around that time. It's very earthy and warm (although warm in Australia might not be a good thing!). I've seen many a fall wedding with this color scheme! I'm digging this.

  9. I also have no qualms about orange and brown. I wear those colors together frequently, myself.

I mean, I'm not the High Priestess of All Things Fashionable or anything, but I don't have a problem with that color combo. Plus, that's the same color scheme as our Brownie uniforms (you know, the pre-Girl Scouts) so it would feel all nostalgic to me.

I say the important thing is the school, not the uniform. :)

  10. Go into business making cute hair thingies to match. (I suppose accessories is the proper word, but I like thingies better.) Probably with brown spotted dogs or something. Purses. Backpacks. Yeah, brown dogs with orange fire hydrants, maybe.

A great school is an awesome find! Yea!

  11. I never had official school uniforms, so this is all pretty foreign to me. That said, go with the orange and brown. It sounds like the good outweighs the bad, or the brown, as someone said. Wouldn't you HATE to be the person responsible for picking out school colours, and knowing that whatever you do, many are going to hate it, or would you LOVE the opportunity to decide?

  12. send the kid. they are not making you wear the uniform right?

  13. I'd still go to school there. What kid doesn't complain about uniforms no matter what the color.

  14. I think that it reminds me of a couple of things:
    - Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
    - Reese's Pieces
    - Butterfinger Candy Bars

Then of course that also means that when they are in uniform I might want to lick them.

  15. OMG, orange and brown?! Right on! I say, give in to the retro uniforms and be safe in the knowledge that your children will possibly channel the vibe from that incredible decade known as the seventies.

Oh, and a little award for you, too.

  16. Homeschool? Seriously! Come on! Tell me that's not as good a reason as any?

  17. Well, look on the bright side (had to do it LOL) I bet you'll save money. Those uniforms sound so bad that your kids will be shedding them the second they come home which means they'll last longer!
Wasn't easy finding a bright side on the brown and orange but at least the school sounds great!
